Villa Dona Belida Achete

Since 1395, the lands of Belida have quietly existed in Achete, in Portugal’s Tejo Valley, evolving from a rural estate and farmland into what is now Villa Dona Belida, a place where land, memory and generations remain deeply intertwined.

TIME

Centuries of Land

For generations, the lands of Belida have followed the rhythm of seasons and work. Wheat once moved with the wind across these fields, while olive trees grew slowly on the sunlit hills of the Tejo Valley, and vineyards and crops shaped the lives of those who depended on the land. Families came and went, names changed, yet the land remained. What exists today is not a reinvention, but the continuation of a place that has quietly endured through time.

1395 The First Record of Belida

In 1395, the name Belida appears in records tied to the Order of Christ. What began as cultivated land within the Comenda da Beselga would endure for centuries, shaping the estate known today as Villa Dona Belida.

The Day Villa Dona Belida Began to Breathe Again

The first day at Villa Dona Belida begins with clearing years of neglect. Hidden calçadas emerge from beneath the grass, ivy is removed from the old walls, and the historic estate slowly begins to breathe again.

The LAND

T h e L a n d s c a p e

Rolling fields, old olive trees and fertile soil define the landscape of Belida, a place shaped for generations by agriculture and patience rather than spectacle. The character of the estate is inseparable from the land that surrounds it, and even today the landscape carries the quiet memory of centuries of cultivation.
Before restoration

The restoration of Villa Dona Belida began again in 2023, carried out with patience and respect for what already exists, where walls are repaired rather than replaced, wood is restored where possible, and stone is treated as memory rather than ruin, because some places are not rebuilt, they are simply continued.
